Solar & EV Charger Installation

The Challenge

Our client runs a home business from his rural lifestyle block in Northland. Set on 4.2 hectares with a renovated family home and substantial outbuildings, his property had the space and infrastructure for a serious solar installation. With an electric vehicle on the horizon and annual energy consumption around 13,000 kWh, he needed a system that could power both household and business operations while handling future increased demand.

Our Solution

His large implement shed provided the ideal location for solar panels, turning an existing asset into an energy generator for his home business. We designed a 13.5kW system using premium European components, with the Fronius Symo GEN24plus 15kW inverter paired with 30 high-efficiency solar panels. The system produces approximately 17,400 kWh annually, comfortably exceeding current usage with plenty of capacity for EV charging.

The Fronius Symo SNAP inverter design means battery storage can be added alongside the system whenever it suits his needs, and the 3-phase smart metering gives him real-time visibility into full site energy consumption and production. We upgraded the shed’s electrical infrastructure to create a solid foundation for the solar installation.

The Results

This rural lifestyle property now generates about 34% more energy than it currently consumes. The large shed roof has become a productive asset, and the owner is perfectly positioned for electric vehicle ownership without concerns about energy costs. The rural location provides excellent solar exposure throughout the year.

With professional installation and comprehensive monitoring capability, our client has a system that delivers clean, reliable energy for decades to come. As a home business owner, he may also benefit from tax advantages through depreciation claims and GST refunds on the installation.
